2022 Chevrolet Tahoe vs 2022 Nissan Armada

Full-size SUVS are an excellent solution for a growing family on the go. With spacious seating and expansive cargo space, there’s plenty of room to accommodate everything from car seats to sports equipment. So how do you choose which one is the right choice for your family?

Let’s take a closer look at two of the most popular models in this class, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2022 Nissan Armada, to figure out which one you should buy.

Exterior

Full-size SUVs know how to make a bold first impression and the new 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2022 Nissan Armada are no exceptions. These people haulers turn heads with their sculpted bodies, wide stances, and bold grilles. Chevy offers the new Tahoe in 10 colors to choose from, while the new Nissan Armada is available in seven colors. The new Chevy Tahoe also has more wheel styles to choose from with 15 offerings versus the Nissan Armada’s four wheel styles.

When parked side-by-side, the new Chevy Tahoe and Nissan Armada appear to be just about the same size.  The specs sheets back this theory up, though the Tahoe has a slight advantage in most categories:

  • Length
    • Chevrolet Tahoe: 210.7 inches
    • Nissan Armada: 208.9 inches
  • Wheelbase
    • Chevrolet Tahoe: 120.9 inches
    • Nissan Armada: 121.1 inches

Both of these full-size SUVs are available with roof-mounted side rails that make it easy to accommodate larger and awkward cargo. They are also both available with LED headlights that cast light farther than traditional bulbs and heated side-view mirrors that keep your view clear of snow and ice.

Both are available with a power liftgate, but only the Tahoe features a hands-free liftgate option. The new Chevy Tahoe is also available with power-retractable assist steps that give you a handy boost up into the cabin.

Over on the new Nissan Armada, we won’t find anything like a power-sliding center console. It does feature a deep second-row center console though and under-floor cargo storage. The new Armada also features tri-zone automatic climate control and heated front seats. It doesn’t have a panoramic sunroof though – just a classic one-touch power sunroof – and it only has a 7-inch Driver-Assist® display.

Performance

The new 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2022 Nissan Armada aren’t just lookers; these full-size SUVs have plenty of power under the hoods as well.

Chevy offers the new Tahoe with three engine options to choose from. The standard 5.3-liter V-8 engine kicks out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, while the available 6.2-liter V-8 engine generates 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. For the diesel lovers, there’s the Tahoe’s 3.0-liter Duramax® turbo-diesel engine that achieves 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All three of these engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The new Chevy Tahoe also features an available first-in-class four-corner air-ride adaptive suspension that can raise the vehicle for higher clearance or lower it to enhance aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. This full-size SUV also features a mechanical limited-slip rear differential, StabiliTrak® electronic stability-control system, and a 7,600-pound towing capacity.

Meanwhile, the new 2022 Nissan Armada is only available with a 5.6-liter V-8 engine. This engine also doesn’t hit the same numbers the Tahoe’s available V-8 engine does, peaking at 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission.

This full-size SUV is also paired with selectable drive modes that let you adjust handling to match current road conditions.
